At the beginning as an auxiliary trade , the woodcarving tradition in Val Gardena grows up to the main trade sector in the valley. Woodtoys, decoration items was made for domestic use. With a lot of diligence and art sense alredy at the beginnig of the XVII century the woodcarving tradtion of Val Gardena developed as arts and crafts trade ; crucifixes, religious figures, nativities, reliefs, altars und church items was made.
Pioneers of the Val Gardena woodcarvingtradition are the brothers Christian and Bartlmäus Trebinger from Ortisei. A few years later also melchio Vinazer - Pescosta
(1622-1689) learned the art of woodcarving. Until after 1800 there was four generations of the artist dynastiy Vinazer, then this dynasty expired.
A lot of woodcarvings of this ancient time, are visible in the Museum de Gherdeina and in many churches.
The woodcarving art for 3 centuries limits it´s range to sacral art, until due to the request also profane and decorative art settle down.
It developed a spry business trade with foreigncountriesuntil oversee. In 1872 in Ortisei and in
1907in Selvathere come into being the art-andwoodcarvingscools, for give to theinterested progeny an apropriate formation.
Our uniquely beautiful collection is exclusively designed by Ulrich and Daniel Perathoner and produced by professional craftsmen.
It takes a long time until our woodcarvings are completed and there is a lot of craftsmanship, experience and passion involved.
That makes our collection so unique!
